Trust is everything within the therapeutic relationship; it is essential if healing is to occur. Unconditional positive regard, non-judgmentalism and respect for the person is essential as well. As a therapist, it is imperative that my clients feel emotionally, socially, and psychologically safe so they may be able to express their most painful hurts and sorrows to me. I am their confidant, advocate and teacher and based upon my knowledge and experience of the human condition, I listen and observe then together decide on a plan of care.
Right now, we are living in troubling times, and hope may seem out of reach. Depression, anxiety, fear, self-doubt and more can take our breath away and challenge our desire to see another day. But while hope may be hidden from us at times, it is waiting to be recaptured. Together, my clients and I will identify and put into play, the many hidden strengths that lie within them. My experience as a mental health therapist helps clients navigate feelings of overwhelming depression, anxiety, fear, low self-esteem (and more), feelings that often arise from believing they are lost and broken.
To future clients I say: As your therapist, I will work with you to challenge negative thoughts and beliefs that deny and undermine your true self, your self-worth and your self-esteem. Know that you are a phenomenal person even though you may not feel that way right now. Together we will work to mine the “gold” that lies within you, and with that newly found “gold” show yourself just how brilliantly you can shine. You are worth working for. And if you do not quite know how to do that yet, or if you a afraid to try, that’s ok. That’s what I’m here for.
I graduated from Clark State Community College in 1985 with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work and in 1988 I graduated from Wright State University with a BS in Social Work with field placements in the field of Domestic Violence and Suicide Prevention. In 1995, received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Ohio State University with the primary focus on community mental health. In 2005 I received my Independent License in Social Work (LISW) as I felt not only confident of what I “knew” in theory but competent in what I could do in “practice.”
As a seasoned therapist I also work with seniors as they face quality of life changes that come with retirement, loss of mobility, isolation, loss of independence, depression and more. While I work with those with ADHD, PTSD I have now opened my caseload to Veterans and Seniors only.
In my practice I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy as well as other therapies as indicated by need. As your therapist I vow to assist you in all facets of your treatment when legal to do so, and to identify your many strengths while overcoming the barriers that hinder your growth.
