Counseling Approach
Utilizing talk therapy, I offer active listening, reflections and questions to assist you in exploring causes of distress. I try to be help you find the possible sources of your struggles and explore ways to bring closure, forgiveness or change. Meaningful and lasting healing often is a result of seeking God’s direction through biblical principles. Prayer can be incorporated in session if desired. I strive to be caring, non-judgmental, personable, honest and direct. We can build skills using a holistic approach; addressing the spiritual, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects of you. I enjoy encouraging people in their development of a unique personal vision and exploring a purpose for their life. An approach I often use is cognitive behavioral; challenging dysfunctional and damaging beliefs that impact thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Special Focus
Many mental health needs; including, ADHD, mild autism spectrum, anxiety disorders, depression, other mood disorders, and adjustment disorders (coping with major life changes). Faith based areas of growth include forgiveness, exploring purpose, identity, and grief. Areas of Competence
I earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, with a minor in communication studies from Wright State University. I earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Wright State University. Worked in community mental health, and an addiction treatment during the course of my career.
Biography
I was a single parent for many years and have a desire to encourage other people dealing with the difficulties that life brings. It is an honor to be able to encourage another person to know their value and the unique identity God gave them. I have worked with those with developmental disabilities and personally understand the strain of caring for others with special needs. Other groups I have worked with include individuals with addiction as well as families coping with the stress that comes from a loved one struggling with addiction.
