I’m Shawnda, and as your therapist, my goal is to help you become a more grounded, confident version of yourself—without feeling like you have to perform, people-please, or push through life on empty. I believe many of our struggles with anxiety, depression, anger, or low self-worth come from old patterns and beliefs we picked up through life experiences—things that may have helped us cope back then, but don’t serve who we are now. When those patterns go unchecked, it can feel like you’re stuck in a cycle of overthinking, overwhelm, shutting down, or reacting in ways you don’t feel proud of. In our work together, we’ll slow things down, get honest about what’s happening underneath the surface, and build a new way forward that fits your real life.
I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work from Oakland University and my Master’s in Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit. My approach is person-centered and eclectic, with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a core foundation. I support adults navigating anxiety, depression, emotional intelligence growth, life transitions, self-esteem and self-confidence, self-awareness, anger management, women’s issues, and trauma.
In sessions, you can expect a safe, gentle space that still gets to the point. I’m known for asking thoughtful, clarifying questions, using journaling to help you connect the dots, and being direct in a supportive way—because clarity creates change. And yes, we may even laugh sometimes. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable, understood, and empowered.
I offer virtual-only therapy during evening hours, so you can get support without rearranging your entire life. I also offer Christian counseling as an option for clients who want to integrate faith into their healing (and I’m equally comfortable keeping therapy non-faith-based if that’s your preference).
When I’m not working, you can usually find me listening to audiobooks, doing crafts (I love making blankets), or spending time with my family.
Selecting a therapist online can be hard—because it’s normal to wonder: “Will I feel comfortable? Will this actually help? Will I be understood?” If you’re feeling uncertain but ready for something to change, I’d love to support you. My hope is that we’ll make a strong team and that you’ll begin to experience real shifts—less overwhelm, more emotional steadiness, and more confidence in who you are and how you show up.
