Hello! My name is Sarah Hunter. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in mental health and crisis intervention within educational settings. I currently serve as the Suicide Prevention and Crisis Recovery Coordinator for Adams 12 Five Star Schools, where I have developed a deep expertise in supporting students and staff through challenging times.
Throughout my career in the Five Star School District, I have gained extensive experience in suicide prevention and recovery. For the past nine years, I have led the District Crisis Response Team, which was nationally recognized by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) in 2016 for our effective use of the PREPaRE Model in post-crisis support.
My approach is client-centered and empathetic, focusing on the unique needs of each individual. I specialize in grief and loss, anxiety and depression, suicide prevention, crisis recovery, and supporting LGBTQ youth, particularly transgender students. As a strong advocate for mental health and the LGBTQ community, I developed and lead the district's guidelines on how to support transgender students, their families, and the schools.
I am an active contributor to the professional community, presenting on topics such as suicide prevention, crisis recovery, and supporting transgender students at numerous conferences, including the Youth Suicide Prevention and Intervention Symposium for the Colorado School Safety Resource Center, the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE), the Colorado School Counselor Association (CSCA) Conference, and the Annual Conference of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors in Destin, FL. Additionally, my work has been published in the Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work and The New Social Worker.
I believe in the power of support and understanding to foster healing and growth. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their feelings and develop effective coping strategies. Whether working with students, families, or staff, I am committed to providing the tools and support necessary for recovery and resilience.
Taking the first step towards therapy can be daunting, but it is also an important move towards a healthier and more fulfilling life. I am here to support you through every step of this journey. I look forward to working with you!
