Hi, my name is Ritchie, and I love being a therapist. I also love learning new and different things. Being a therapist has afforded me the opportunity to meet new and different people who learn from me, and I learn from them. Having had a diverse background in education and real estate brings a unique perspective to my practice. My journey began as a high school English teacher where I gained invaluable experience in understanding the complexities of adolescence, communication, and family dynamics. Teaching taught me how to listen deeply, connect with individuals from various backgrounds, and create an environment where everyone feels safe and understood. Later, my career as a real estate agent further honed my skills in negotiating, problem-solving, and managing high-stress situations. These roles have shaped my ability to help people navigate life's challenges with empathy, practicality, and a keen understanding of human behavior.
I hold two master's degrees, one in counseling from Loyola University in Maryland. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, meaning I draw from various therapeutic modalities to tailor my work to each client's unique needs. I believe that no single approach fits all, and the flexibility to adapt is crucial in effective therapy. My toolbox includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Each of these therapies offers different strengths, and I integrate them as needed to address the specific issues my clients face.
In relationships, whether romantic, familial, or professional, conflicts and misunderstandings are often rooted in communication patterns, unspoken expectations, and unresolved emotional wounds. Using CBT, I help clients identify and challenge the negative thought patterns that may be contributing to their relationship difficulties. ACT helps clients learn to accept and move from difficult emotions to a greater sense of personal control. EMDR can be transformative with clients dealing with past traumas that continue to impact their current relationships.
Overall, my goal is to help people learn to accept and move forward from difficult situations, foster resilience, and empower clients with a new understanding of how to live successfully and authentically. If you're ready to embark on this journey together, I'm here to support you every step of the way.
