Hello! I'm Melita, and I'm so glad you're here. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life, and taking the first steps towards change is a big deal. If you're ready to take that step, I'm here to support and empower you every step of the way.
My counseling style is supportive and understanding. Life can be exceedingly challenging to navigate, especially during major life transitions. These moments can significantly impact our well-being, especially if we don't have the proper tools to work through them. I believe in treating everyone with respect, patience, and compassion. My approach begins with building a trusting and therapeutic relationship in the safety of our counseling sessions. I combine cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and rational-emotive counseling to tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with a concentration in addiction studies and a minor in psychology. In 2015, I obtained my master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in Texas and Virginia, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas. With over 8 years of experience in various settings, I've worked with clients of all ages, from 5 to 85, in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as in higher education as a career counselor, job placement specialist, and advisor.
I specialize in a wide range of areas, including addiction, ADHD, adolescent and teen mental/behavioral health, anger management, antisocial behavior, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, children's mental/behavioral health, depression, eating disorders, family relationships, grief/bereavement, intimate/romantic relationships, LGBTQIA+ support, life transitions, military/veteran support, narcissistic personality disorder, OCD, phobias, PTSD, stress, suicidal ideation and/or self-harming, and trauma.
In our sessions, I aim to help you arrive at insights, strategies, and tools that you can begin using immediately to make positive changes in your life. We don’t just sit and talk; I love to provide you with concrete tools whenever possible and help you have a plan for the following days before our next session, if that is the pace at which you would like to move. Most importantly, we will ensure we are making progress on the goals you have for yourself. I will be there to guide you, encourage you, and possibly even challenge you if I feel you are unknowingly allowing obstacles to stand in your way.
I look forward to working with you and helping you build a life worth living that is unique to you and your preferences. Let's take this journey together.
