Hello, my name is Matt Banach. I'm excited to meet you and help you with your therapy progress.
My ideal client specifically wants to address their trauma through EMDR and is motivated to put in the work to heal. Their issues range from mild depression and single episodic trauma to more complex PTSD and dissociative presentations. For example, their issues may include formative attachment trauma, military trauma, accidents, and sexual abuse. Their most prominent need would be to heal from past trauma which contributes to their current distress and difficulties in relationships. Some of their goals may include creating safety and security, trauma resolution, integrating their nervous system, learning healthy and effective coping, healing the traumatized parts of self, improving social functioning, and gaining perspective on their life. My client wants to face and feel the intense emotions brought about through therapy because they realize, as Robert Frost stated, 'The only way out is through.' In addition, my client wants to learn the skills and coping required to work on themselves safely and effectively, and to experience balance in their life.
As a certified consultant in both Attachment Focused Trauma Therapy and EMDR, I can help people heal and support them through the personality transformation these therapies produce. I work closely with my clients to build trusting relationships through curiosity, attunement, and a foundational holding environment. What this essentially means is I want my clients to feel as comfortable with me as I am with them. I begin by learning about my clients through an initial assessment. This information is then broken down and we determine what the client wants to work on and how I may assist. Clients will also be given assessment tools to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. As treatment progresses, our interactions also progress. We focus less on day-to-day issues because they become resolved through the therapeutic process. Since I provide EMDR therapy, I follow Francine Shapiro's three-pronged protocol. My clients reprocess past traumas, present triggers, and anticipatory anxiety. In addition, I work closely with my clients' parts of self to foster a sense of safety and security while moving through the eight phases of EMDR therapy. The client and the therapist collaborate to work toward a pace that supports healing, health, and well-being. Attachment Focused Trauma Therapy is used in conjunction with phase two of EMDR therapy as it utilizes Attachment Theory, DBT, CBT, Psychodynamic, and Narrative Therapy to bring about a metamorphosis in the client, even prior to reprocessing. They learn how to work with the traumatized parts of the self to enable a more balanced approach to EMDR that improves outcomes.
Through experience, I have developed an intrinsic belief that people possess everything they look for when seeking psychological healing. In addition, I also believe that in order to continue to grow as a therapist, one must also be on their own personal healing journey. I know how challenging working through trauma can be at times, as well as what it feels like to experience the freedom on the other side.
On a personal level, I love spending time with my family, running a tractor, mucking stalls, and feeding barn animals. I am no stranger to getting dirty and rolling up my sleeves and love spending time outdoors snowboarding, hiking, and when I can, sitting on a beach watching the waves roll on.
If you're ready to take the next step on your healing journey, I would be honored to support you along the way. Let's work together to find the balance and peace you deserve.
