Lisa Allison
Hello, I'm Lisa, and I have over 20 years of experience as a Licensed Therapist. I hold a Master's in Social Work from The Ohio State University and an Ed.S. in School Psychology from National Louis University in Chicago. I'm board-certified in both Ohio and Illinois, and I've also been certified as a School Psychologist. My diverse background includes working in inpatient, outpatient, and residential settings, as well as schools, hospitals, treatment centers, cancer wellness facilities, and as a consultant. These varied experiences allow me to draw from a rich tapestry of knowledge to best support my clients. I believe in encouraging and empowering my clients to effectively use their own strengths and skills to improve their lives and relationships. We all have areas that can use a little improvement, and the key is to maximize strengths to compensate for weaknesses. My approach is client-centered, and I utilize several different therapeutic modalities based on what works best for each individual. Building a strong therapeutic relationship and establishing trust are the cornerstones of effective therapy. I see therapists as vehicles to empower and encourage clients, helping them find the validation they need to inspire change and reach their goals. I am trained in family systems therapy and often incorporate an understanding of family history and generational patterns into my work. However, I also recognize that for some clients, focusing on the here and now with short-term goals can be more practical. I integrate different modalities based on each client's needs and preferences, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, meditation, hypnosis, and my personal favorite—solution-focused therapy. I appreciate that time and money are not unlimited resources for most people, so I aim to help clients accomplish their goals efficiently and effectively. My expertise includes helping people with a variety of issues, such as mood disorders, relationship concerns, family dynamics, couples counseling, support groups, social skills groups, emotional stress, life and work challenges, academic and school-related concerns, eating disorders, trauma, grief, divorce, loss, cancer, illness support, and most recently, stress and life changes due to COVID-19. If you're ready to take the next step towards improving your life and relationships, I would be honored to work with you. Let's embark on this journey together.
