Hello, I'm Josh Burke. I'm glad you found us here at SonderMind, and I appreciate you taking the first step by reaching out. Let me tell you a bit about myself, and if I seem to be a good fit for you, we can begin as soon as you would like.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Colorado, Vermont, and New York, with over eight years of experience in providing psychotherapy for a wide variety of issues and populations. I earned my Master's in Social Work with a mental health concentration from Roberts Wesleyan College in 2013. For six years, I provided individual therapy to clients in Rochester, NY, through their primary care offices. Now, I work as an Independent Therapist offering both telehealth and in-person consultations.
My approach to therapy is goal-oriented and client/person-centered. I primarily use Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These modalities are engaging and practical, focusing on problem-solving and addressing stressors. ACT is an action-oriented approach that stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. It helps individuals stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with inner emotions, and instead, accept these feelings as appropriate responses to certain situations. This acceptance allows for commitment to necessary behavioral changes, regardless of life's challenges.
I specialize in a range of areas including anger management, antisocial behavior, anxiety, depression, family relationships, gender identity, grief/bereavement, LGBTQIA+ support, life transitions, medical issues/physical health, OCD, phobias, PTSD, intimate/romantic relationships, sex/intimacy issues, sleep disorders, somatic symptom disorder, spirituality, stress, suicidal ideation/self-harming, and trauma. I also offer SonderMind Video Telehealth for those who prefer virtual sessions.
I understand that difficult and unpleasant times are part of the human experience, and seeking help can be a vulnerable step. My goal is to establish a trusting and emotionally supportive relationship to facilitate healing and personal growth. Change is not easy, but it is possible, and I'm here to support you through it.
If you feel that we might be a good match, I invite you to reach out and begin this journey together. I look forward to working with you.
