Hello, I'm Dr. Jan Alan Eglen. I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me and my approach to therapy. My journey in the field of psychology has been diverse and deeply fulfilling, and I'm excited to share how my experiences can help you on your path to well-being.
I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University, along with an MS in Psychology, a second MS in Life Sciences, and a BA in Pre-Medicine. My professional background is rich with varied experiences, from working on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory space program to co-founding one of Indiana's largest private practices. These experiences have shaped my holistic and innovative approach to therapy.
My therapeutic philosophy centers on cognitive and behavioral approaches, though I also have training in dialectical therapy and EMDR. I believe in tailoring my methods to fit each client's unique needs, ensuring a personalized and effective therapy experience. My goal is to provide a supportive and understanding environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and work towards your personal goals.
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, PTSD, and issues related to medical and physical health. I also have extensive experience with life transitions, dementia, and traumatic brain injury. Whether you're dealing with a specific challenge or seeking general support, I'm here to help you navigate your journey with compassion and expertise.
My background includes serving as an expert witness in numerous hearings and trials, and I hold the highest board certification in counseling psychology in the US, the ABPP. I'm also a licensed Health Service Provider in Psychology and a Fellow of the Academy of Counseling Psychology. These credentials reflect my commitment to maintaining the highest standards in my practice.
Outside of my professional life, I've had the unique opportunity to contribute to various innovative projects, from developing astronaut gear to creating recreational hovercraft and drones. These experiences have taught me the importance of creativity, resilience, and adaptability—qualities I bring into my therapeutic practice.
