Hello, I'm Erin. Many clients come to therapy asking, “What is wrong with me?”, “Why do I make the choices I make?”, “Why am I not good at managing conflict?” Most human beings have suffered from some kind of trauma in their lifetime, whether it be loss of a loved one, an abusive relationship, or some other unmet need. My approach to therapy is to help clients gain insight into themselves through exploration of their past, which includes exploration of family-of-origin patterns and roles. By gaining insight into our past, we can improve our present and have increased compassion for ourselves and others. I believe the therapeutic relationship is most important in making progress. My approach to therapy is goal-oriented and is client-based and individualized. I use cognitive behavioral therapy because of the importance of identifying maladaptive thinking and working to improve this. I also use a psychoanalytical and solution-based approach to therapy. Additionally, I feel there is no one type of therapy that works for everyone, so I believe in an individualized treatment plan for clients.
In 2012, I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Master’s degree in Social Work. I have been working as a clinical therapist for 12 years and am now a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). The majority of my experience has consisted of working with individuals who struggle with addiction, trauma, codependency issues, religious trauma, and LGBTQIA issues. I’ve worked in a residential setting, private practice setting, and hospital setting treating adults with various mental health conditions, including individuals with co-morbidities. I believe in meeting clients where they are and being a good listener and having empathy, as well as being honest and open and saying the difficult ‘stuff’ at times.
If my short bio sounds like a good fit for you, I would love to schedule a session or a phone call to chat. I am also willing to meet for a free 10-minute phone call to find out what clients are interested in working on, and if there are any concerns or questions regarding starting therapy.
