Hello, I'm C.J. As a Black gender-nonconforming individual, I understand the profound importance of finding spaces where you are fully accepted and understood. In my practice, connection and safety are paramount. I work mindfully and collaboratively with individuals from all backgrounds to establish a strong working alliance that feels right for you and has clear boundaries.
I invite you to explore various interventions that have proven to be helpful, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. My theoretical orientation includes Relational Cultural Theory and Constructivist Self Development Theory. Whether these concepts are familiar to you or not, my training allows me to guide you through the process.
I am an Assistant Professor at Westfield State University and a proud graduate of the University of St. Thomas / St. Catherine University doctoral social work program. With over 20 years of experience in community mental health services, I have worked with culturally diverse populations in urban settings, focusing on Black Female-to-Male (FTM) Transgender Identity, the intergenerational impacts of slavery, trauma-informed group work with incarcerated women, and social work teaching as a practice. I have also provided supervision to countless social workers, giving me a robust appreciation for the stressors that affect individuals in human service work.
