Alexandra Helfenbein
Hello! I’m Alex, a Colorado-located counselor and art therapist. My BA from Arizona State is in Psychology & Studio Art. I earned my MA in Counseling & Art Therapy from Southwestern College in NM. I specialize in anxiety, depression, women’s issues, coping, and LGBTQIA+ issues. I believe that each person holds the answers to their questions. I hope to serve as a partner in your discovery, focused on building transformational solutions and modifying personal narratives to grow self-love. I take an upfront and honest approach to therapy. I like to work in concepts from dialectical behavior therapy which can include mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, acceptance and commitment. I find value in psycho education — teaching you about the evidence based techniques you can work into your daily life. After all, the more we understand what’s going on, the more equipped you are to make choices about what you want in life moving forward. General goals and outcomes that I typically work toward include these: Practicing acceptance of things we do not have control over, while committing to making the positive changes that we can. Learning to tolerate unpleasant realities of life while working toward achieving personally meaningful goals. Living in alignment with your personal values. Improving communication and boundaried living with others. Experiencing an overall increase in motivation, purpose, hope, and enjoyment in life.
