Teri Whiteman
I work with adults who are struggling with making changes in their lives. They may be stuck in habits, addictions, depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships or unfulfilling work situations. The common thread is they are not living the life they want but rather are living from their limited programming and conditioning. Through understanding human psychological functioning and the deeper spiritual nature of being human, I help clients come back to their innate well-being. Understanding the role that thought plays in creating the reality you see makes the difference between being at the mercy of reactive thinking (mental stress and suffering) and being empowered by the natural intelligence that is always seeking balance and equilibrium. Wisdom, resilience, freedom and well-being naturally reside within you. I received my M.Ed. in Counseling from University of Missouri, St. Louis. I spent my early years working through the school system with kids who were considered high risk, providing counseling and support for them and their families. Many of these kids were diagnosed with some type of learning disability. I saw how detrimental a learning disability can be to their sense of self and became passionate about helping them see who they were beyond the label. My passion led me to open a business, providing cognitive skills training to kids who struggle with learning. I continued to provide counseling and support to families who were trying to navigate the world of a special needs child. I served on the board of directors for Empowering Young Women, a conference for middle school girls through the University of Missouri. The purpose of EYW is to help adolescent girls develop a personal sense of identity so they can make good choices at this pivotal developmental stage of their lives. In addition to being on the planning committee, I brought groups of middle school girls to the conference and created follow up programs to help them move forward in their lives feeling more empowered as a young women. For the past three years, I've been associated with Dr. Amy Johnson, author of Little Book of Big Change and creator of Little School of Big Change. LSBC is an online program that helps people make changes in habits and addictions, particularly eating disorders. I've served as a facilitator and coach for the group, through an online forum and remote coaching via Zoom. The work I do in helping people to create lasting change is based on an understanding of neurocircuitry and spirituality. When a behavior is done repeatedly, neural circuitry is formed in the brain. Habits and addictions become impersonal brain wiring problems that result from taking your habitual thinking as truth. Seeing through the illusion of this programming to the truth of who you are is where lasting change comes from.
