My approach is to join with you first, to build the trust and safety required for therapy, and to understand on a deep level what your experience is. Next, we understand how you got to where you are at now, to get a sense of what has caused your symptoms. My motto here is that symptoms always make sense on some level; the majority of the time symptoms are a natural reaction to life’s adversities. We just need to figure out how it all fits together for you so we can figure out how to untangle it. From here we create a treatment plan that addresses your goals and symptoms, using whatever therapy modalities might fit your circumstance. We choose the right therapy that fits your needs best and moves you forward. I graduated from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California in 2011 with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and I do individual, couples, and family therapy. I have been providing therapy for 14 years, most recently at a community mental health clinic where I worked with teens and adults. Prior to this, I worked in a therapeutic classroom in a middle school, providing individual and group therapy. My internship and first placement out of grad school was with a residential treatment center for dually diagnosed adults (substance abuse disorders and mental health). I specialize in trauma resolution, anxiety, and depression for individuals. I am EMDR trained and certified, while also using other modalities such as IFS, Flash Technique, CBT, attachment based and family/couple systems perspectives to help you recover from any traumas or stuck points in your life and resolve your symptoms. With couples and families, I take a systems approach, exploring how the interactions between family members and the basic structure of the family overall contribute to how everyone feels, behaves, and reacts. Regardless of the modality, I work to understand what brings you here, what has caused and continues to cause your symptoms, and to create a plan together with you that brings you to where you want to be in your life.
