Hello, I'm Dr. Alexander. With over 15 years of experience in planning, developing, and managing comprehensive programs, my passion lies in improving the lives of children, youth, and families. My journey as a scholar-practitioner has taken me through various roles including educator, clinician, consultant, social work educator, and researcher across sectors such as education, child welfare, juvenile justice, and community mental health settings. My clinical work is deeply rooted in the belief that everyone has a fundamental need for love and acceptance. This belief shapes my focus on relationships, empathy, dignity, respect, and authenticity. I strive to create a safe, nurturing space where clients can explore their identities and harness their personal strengths to become their true selves. I embrace a strength-based, client-centered approach, helping clients identify their needs, set achievable goals, and cope with life's stresses. As a critical race and black family scholar, I am particularly interested in examining the impact of historical and contemporary social structures on the lives of children, youth, and families within resilient, diverse communities. My treatment orientations include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Adlerian, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), culturally attuned approaches, faith-based methods, integrative techniques, interpersonal therapy, strength-based strategies, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
