Kathleen Mccain
Hello, I'm Marie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a passion for helping others on their journey of self-discovery. My path has taken me through mental health hospitals, addiction treatment centers, day programs for individuals with disabilities, schools, and various community agencies. Each of these experiences has equipped me with a diverse set of skills for working with individuals, groups, and families. I specialize in a wide range of areas, including addiction, anger management, anxiety, depression, developmental disabilities, family relationships, gender identity, grief and bereavement, intimate and romantic relationships, learning disorders, life transitions, suicidal ideation and self-harming, and trauma. My historical specialties also include working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, guardianship and conservatorship, truancy court, at-risk students, and discharge planning from mental health hospitals. Additionally, I have provided care and therapy for elders, youth, domestic violence survivors, cancer patients, veterans, sexual assault victims, and those dealing with divorce and child-rearing challenges. My educational journey took a bit longer as I paused to raise four children. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Colorado State University in Pueblo, and my Master's Degree through a family-centered satellite program provided by Newman University of Wichita, Kansas. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly and a parent myself, which adds to my understanding and empathy in my practice. I've had the opportunity to travel to Arkansas, providing services in both hospital settings and hospice houses. My experience with intense inpatient therapy in addiction and mental health care has been particularly poignant and unique. Through my years in the field, I've learned the importance of being realistic and keeping things simple, a principle I often apply in therapy follow-up sessions. Currently, I am working in Oregon, enjoying the coast while assisting veterans with mental health issues. However, I remain dedicated to giving back to my fellow Coloradoans. I look forward to working with individuals who are ready to embark on this journey together, teaching me more about their needs, interests, and challenges in our society today. Let's see if we can work things out together. Schedule a session now, and let's start this journey.
