Karen Abato
I work with people from all walks of life, who are seeking support for a variety of life's challenges. My primary expertise has been with the experience of trauma and with addictive patterns of reaction, both of which tend to result in feelings of depression and anxiety. I have also developed expertise in working with the LGBTQI community and with women in transitional phases of their lives, addressing the grief process as the healing process that supports moving from suffering to hope. I believe psychotherapy is most effective when a therapeutic alliance is built, allowing me to learn about the client's perspective, assisting in identifying ways in which people either react to or respond to their own lives. With that awareness I have hope that people can move from reacting to internal and external crises, into more calmly making informed decisions about their own lives. I think therapy lays the groundwork for a more empowered approach to living. If you are looking for a supportive environment in which to discover your own strengths, to develop coping strategies that effectively address the issues that are creating internal suffering, I think my approach can be helpful. I believe that you are the expert in your own life experiences and that my role is to join you and offer perspective and guidance that allows you to discover how to move through whatever difficulty you are facing in a more empowered and self aware way.
