Do you find yourself saying, "Wait, this isn't how my life was supposed to go"? The truth is that it’s never too late to write a new story of who you are and how you want your life to be. So many times we are confronted with life's challenges only to find that we are caught in the same negative loop, repeating the same patterns. We start again reenergized, only to end up feeling the same awful anxiety, self-doubt, and depression while our relationships and goals suffer. Many therapeutic approaches focus on reducing symptoms and learning tools to cope. Although those are important focuses in therapy, long-lasting change happens when we truly gain insight and heal what's at the root of these patterns. My approach to therapy is Integrative and uses evidence-based and trauma-informed treatments tailored to best fit your needs, concerns, and goals to address those underlying causes. With its origins in humanistic and existential philosophies, my approach emphasizes the importance of providing a warm, non-judgmental environment. I’m also well-versed in treatment approaches that lead us into action quickly to reduce distress (IPT, CBT, etc.). I believe that our desire to have mutually satisfying relationships with others is key to good emotional health, and relationship difficulties are often at the root of distress. My approach to therapy (and life) is inclusive and LGBTQ+ affirming and seeks to assist individuals in identifying skills and strengths to embrace their personal power. Hello, I’m Dr. Julianne Massimo, and I would like to welcome you in taking the first step to feeling more like yourself, or the self you would like to become. I earned my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Akron and have been in practice for over 25 years. I’m honored to have been one of the first clinicians in Ohio with a specialized certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), from Postpartum Support International. I am also certified in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT-A). Along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), IPT is an evidence-based psychotherapy effective for the treatment of postpartum depression, perinatal mood disorders, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other trauma-related disorders for individuals across the lifespan. I am also a part-time professor teaching graduate courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I work with all individuals across the lifespan, from teens to seniors, to help deal with grief, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns while trying to balance life and all of its challenges. My clinical specialties include grief, moving through unimaginable loss, anxiety, depression, disabilities, and reproductive and perinatal mental health, including postpartum depression and perinatal mood and psychotic disorders.
