Joelle Muganga
Hello, I'm Joelle. My journey in social work and counseling began in 2008 during my graduate studies at Boston College. I started my career in a men's medium security prison in Massachusetts, where I provided individual and group therapy to vulnerable incarcerated individuals facing mental health challenges. This experience shaped my understanding of resilience and the importance of mental health support in difficult circumstances. After several years in correctional mental health, I transitioned to an outpatient detox center, supporting adults managing addiction on an outpatient basis. Eventually, I opened my own outpatient psychotherapy practice in Norwood, MA, where I worked with a diverse range of clients, from teens to older adults, dealing with various mental health concerns, stressors, and life transitions. I also provided couples counseling, helping partners navigate challenges such as parenting styles and infidelity. While maintaining my private practice, I joined the Alzheimer's Association, MA/NH chapter, as a memory specialist. In this role, I offered telephonic consultations to individuals and families caring for loved ones with memory impairment or dementia. These consultations often involved future planning, managing difficult behaviors, and providing disease education and caregiver support. A relocation led me to offer virtual support, making emotional support, validation, and a listening ear accessible through a platform many of us use daily. With eleven years of clinical experience, I am confident in my ability to support individuals facing a variety of challenges. I am also comfortable making appropriate recommendations if I believe another therapeutic setting may better meet a client's needs. My approach to therapy is solution-focused, helping clients develop creative solutions to their problems. I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership that requires hard work and honesty from both parties. The challenges we face in life, from daily stress to traumatic events, can be difficult to navigate alone. While family and friends can be immensely helpful, sometimes we need a listener to help us see things more clearly. If you're looking for support, I invite you to reach out. Together, we can work towards finding solutions and achieving your goals.
