Barbara Wasowska
I have experience providing psychotherapy to young, mature, and senior adults. I am passionate about helping people achieve their goals and happiness in life. I pride myself on being a compassionate listener to individuals who have faced life’s most profound challenges, suffered from mood disorders, experienced trauma, grief, abuse, or relational problems, and suffered multiple stresses, including those related to work and academia. Adler, who was very influential in developing modern psychotherapy, defined empathy as seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another. This philosophical mantra defines my sensitivity to other people's feelings, emotions, and desires. My philosophy of successful psychotherapy is to use a holistic approach. I always blend elements from different theories and tailor them to the best benefit of my clients. My educational background in psychology (master's Degree from Johns Hopkins University) )and biomedicine (PhD from the Academy of Sciences) allows me to understand the psycho-neurological foundation of mental suffering and how the body and mind interact with each other. I am devoted to helping my clients begin the process of healing and change. As a bilingual American of European origin, I have become increasingly sensitive to issues associated with people’s race, ethnicity, and cultural heritage. This has been instrumental in finding the best way to work successfully with people from backgrounds different from mine.
