As a registered play therapist, I specialize in counseling children, teens, and young adults ages 4-22. I use play and talk therapy along with EMDR to help them work through their challenges. Young children especially have difficulty communicating their feelings, and play therapy gives them an opportunity to process their emotions using the language with which they are familiar--play. Teens and young adults have the choice of whether or not to play, and sometimes prefer talk therapy. By working through challenges, children, teens, and young adults can learn emotional management, problem-solving skills, and coping skills. By providing children, teens, and young adults with a safe and supportive space, they can feel comfortable to grow and change. Play therapy allows for clients to communicate their challenges to me, and clients can feel free to explore their feelings in a non-confrontational way. I also use EMDR when appropriate such as trauma.
