Contemporary Psychodynamic Theory Across Paradigms

About the Course

Contemporary psychodynamic approaches can be applied across theoretical approaches in clinical practice. Psychodynamic approaches can augment or integrate into other psychotherapeutic traditions such as cognitive behavioral or third wave approaches (e.g., ACT). In this course, we will review basic theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary psychodynamic systems, including a review of empirical support and criticisms.

Emphasis is placed on the application of psychodynamic approaches in case conceptualization and as part of the larger clinical care process, even when the therapist is not working from a primary psychodynamic perspective. Specific examples of a contemporary psychodynamic therapeutic approach will be described.
