About the Course

The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Foundations course explores the construct of psychological flexibility. ACT is an engaging, evidence-based therapy modality. The ACT Foundations course features expert discussion and engaging role plays to educate and empower mental health practitioners. Through this course, practitioners will learn the six core principles of ACT, ways to navigate the common barriers that arise when first practicing ACT, and how to apply the Hexaflex ACT model in therapy sessions via metaphors and therapeutic interventions.

Course Objectives

Jared K. O'Garro-Moore, PhD
Jared K. O’Garro-Moore, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology in the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. Dr. O’Garro-Moore specializes in the treatment of adults with mood and anxiety disorders as well as personality disorders. He received his Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Temple University and holds advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Paul Deger, MA, LPC, PT
Paul has learned from his over 35 years of experience in health care that, with patient and compassionate support, we are far more capable of responding to challenges and growth than we tend to believe. We can all access a deep well of peace, wisdom and courage within. Paul began his health career as a Physical Therapist, specializing in neurological rehabilitation. Paul then shifted focus from physical to psychological health, specializing in mindfulness-based interventions. Recognizing the importance of a holistic approach, Paul also did graduate studies in pastoral care. He has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor in hospital-based, private practice and home-based settings. Paul has taught mindfulness meditation, stress management and health behavior change nationally as well as an invited speaker at professional conferences. Paul is known for creating and delivering insightful and engaging mental well-being learning experiences with NPS scores over 90 and mental well-being products that drive measurable improvements in mental well-being. He is committed to the integration of clinical and creative design towards making engageable and effective education that moves us out of stigma and into mental wellbeing as an attainable right for all! When not working, Paul enjoys rock climbing and vintage car shows with his son.

Marjorie Morrison, LMFT, LPCC
Marjorie Morrison, LMFT, LPCC, is the co-founder of Psych Hub, the world's largest mental health education platform. Rachel Ginsberg, PhD
Dr. Rachel Ginsberg serves as the Quality Director of the Columbia University Psychiatry Faculty Practice Organization and the Assistant Director at Columbia University Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD) - Westchester. She is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and specializes in the evaluation and treatment of adults and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, depression and related disorders, as well as perinatal women’s health issues. Dr. Ginsberg has expertise in and provides consultation on evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and has worked in a variety of settings, including pediatric and adult outpatient, partial hospital, and inpatient settings. Her interests center on finding novel and creative ways to personalize and optimize treatment for anxiety, OCD, and depressive disorders.

Melissa Leeth, MA, LMHC
Melissa (she/her) is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) with care delivery, volunteer, teaching, and research experience within the field of psychology. Melissa’s passion for aiding others first ignited when she began volunteer work at a domestic violence shelter during her undergraduate years at Indiana University. Since that time, Melissa has earned a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Indianapolis, gained clinical experience as a mental health therapist in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and taught introductory psychology courses at the community college level.
