Shakena Mabry
I am originally from New York born and raised. I relocated to Maryland in 2012. I attended Lehman College in the Bronx where I obtained my bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Elementary Education in 2003 while being a member of the track and field team, specializing in the 400-meter dash. I graduated from Fordham University in 2009 with a master's degree in Social Work with a specialization in Gerontology. I then went on to obtain my PhD in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior from Capella University in 2022. I have always known I wanted to help people which is why I went into social work. I always wanted to work with children which is why I chose to minor in elementary education; however, I am most appreciative of what I learned through my gerontology studies while at Fordham University because of my grandmother. My grandmother was my best friend until she passed away. My knowledge and training in genecology prepared me to be a better granddaughter, advocate, friend and motivator to my grandmother. My training allowed me to help my grandmother find her voice and utilize it to advocate for herself regarding the care she wanted, needed and deserved. I have had the honor and privilege to work with in various settings which allowed me to meet and work with a diverse background of people. I have experience working with young children, teens, young adults and older adults. I have experience working with individuals living with various mental health challenges as well as substance use challenges. My therapy approach is to provide a no judgement zone. My goal is to help you achieve your goal. My clients often tell me I am easy going, easy to talk to and make them feel like they have a safe space to be themselves and express their feelings.
