About Jeffrey Cohen, PsyD
Dr. Jeff Cohen (he/him) is a clinical psychologist on faculty at Columbia University Irving Medical Center where he sees patients, conducts research, and teaches, focusing on evidence-based practice and the health of sexual and gender minority people.
Dr. Cohen has expertise in the latest cognitive and behavioral therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which balance change with acceptance. Dr. Cohen is also considered a leading expert on the health of LGBT people and the coming out process.
Dr. Cohen’s research has been published in peer reviewed journals including Behavior Therapy, Cognitive & Behavioral Practice, and the Journal of Anxiety Disorders as well as presented at the annual conventions of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.
Dr. Cohen currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Sexual and Gender Minority Special Interest Group and he teaches a class about mindfulness to undergraduates in the psychology department at Columbia University. Dr. Cohen is committed to educating the public about the value of psychological science and he has been interviewed by media outlets including The New York Times, NBC, and VICE. He is also passionate about increasing access to mental healthcare with technology and advises startups on making mental healthcare accessible to all.
In 2020, Dr. Cohen’s work has grown in new ways, and he’s become a champion for how to adjust to a rapidly changing–and often overwhelming–world.
